Frequently Asked Questions
Have any questions about the event? Want to learn more about The Fated Day of NeoCon? Perhaps this page can help you! If not, then you can always e-mail the event organizers for more details.
NeoCon is all-day picnic/party/hang-out event organized by Neoturbine founders and their friends. The annual event got started in June of 2005 and since then remained as a Neoturbine tradition to make it bigger and better every year. To most newcomers and prospective guests we describe it as a picnic and a very social event, but there is a lot more to it since we bring our various friends to meet new people, see old friends and make the event their own thing. NeoCon usually begins in morning to early afternoon hours in a designated forest preserve in Cook County, IL. We stay there most of the day right until sundown (when the preserve officially closes) and then whoever chooses to remain, along with the organizers, head to Chicago to continue hanging out some more at night. Guests can come and leave when they want, but for the full experience we advise people to stick around for the whole day.
If you haven't been invited already, you would have to drop us a line via e-mail and we will put you on our guest list. If you want someone else to come with you or stop by, we will need to know about them. Every guest is charged a tentative $10-15 fee that goes towards food and grove rental. We spend a considerable amount of time planning the event for an estimate number of guests and price everything out accordingly. Therefore we don't quite like the prospect of random people dropping by, but we are sure you understand. Also, make sure you have a way to get there and some extra cash for out-of-pocket expenses that happen occur.
It's OK, we are professionals. No actually, not really. We do have a history of doing crazy stupid stunts on a whim and having people like you concerned that we will get arrested or burn the grove down. So far it hasn't happened and the organizers do keep a watch from the corner of their eye to make sure it stays that way. We like to think that we have enough common sense to keep everything far enough from becoming a horrible incident and well farther away from it becoming restrained with safety nets. NeoCon is about relaxing and having fun, so if you are going to worry about things, then maybe you should stay at home and watch Fox News instead.
NeoCon 2008 is going to be on July 12th at Forest Way Drive Preserve in Glencoe, IL. You can obtain driving directions to the event using the handy-dandy map below or call us in case you get lost. As of now, the event will tentatively begin around noon or later, but if you are on the guest list, you will receive an e-mail with the correct time sometime before the event. There is free parking available at the grove.
At minimum you will be paying us about $10-15 (exact number will be announced closer to the event) for food and grove rental. If you were interested in a NeoCon T-shirt, you will be paying an extra $10-15. We will collect those fees either two weeks in advance when we come to see you (or the person who invited you) or in some special cases we will accept the money at the grove. Also, be prepared to spend money on your own transportation and for anything we do if you stick around after the sun goes down.
You can leave us comments on the optional survey when you log-in to your invite link and we will get back to you. Your help might even help us bring down the overall cost to everyone for the event!
By default we do not buy food to fit all diets, but try to keep food choices a little diverse. Having said that, there is a food section on the optional survey when you log-in to your invite link that addresses this issue. If you feel that you need to let us know about your situation, please leave a comment on there. We would appreciate if you only fill that section out if the concern is major and/or life-threatening since we do not want to spend time and money on something that will go to waste. For all other concerns you can contact the person who invited you or drop us a comment on the vital survey when you RSVP.
