Fun times by all

"Summer. Outdoors. Mayhem." - these words would probably best describe what The Neoturbine Convention (or NeoCon for short) is all about. What started as one summer day in 2005 as a badly planned picnic is now annually growing in size. In just three summers we have raised our attendance to twenty-five people - some coming from as far Ohio! This year we strive to break our records once more while kicking back, having fun and making new friends.

The NeoCon Story

One hot June day in 2005 some of the Neoturbine founders (namely Joe, Steve and Dmitriy) and a handful of our friends decided to haphazardly go out to one of the Chicago area forest preserves for a picnic. Poor planning showed through pretty quickly as time was wasted looking for a vacant spot to set up, the grill took forever to fire and some of those in attendance started to really dislike each other. In the frenzy of these problems, we didn't notice that the sun began to set and other people in the preserve packed up and left. We also didn't know that the park closed at sundown until a friendly police officer came around and confronted us. Luckily, we were released without an arrest and quickly left the preserve grounds.

A year later, with some lessons learned, we have decided to try again. While attendance was not much larger, the outing went pretty smoothly and was finished off with a trip to the bowling alley. From that day on, we have decided to make the event a tradition and dub it NeoCon.

In 2007, with more careful planning, we have gathered about 25 people at what has been seen as the best NeoCon to date. Unexpected friends showed up from Ohio, a returning founder created a pirate flag for the event, and of course we made new friends and had a fun day out. With the memories of that day, and the NeoCons before it, we hope that years to come will be just as good, if not better.
